Yukon Rugby kicked off its 2025 season with the Spring Jamboree at Porter Creek Secondary School field on May 3rd. We had the perfect Spring rugby weather: not too hot, not too cold, no rain or wind, and just enough sun to keep us warm enough to play all day!
The Men's division expanded its number of teams from two to three, with the Chieftain Energy Woolies making up a men's side to compete against the Yukon Brewing Gold Diggers and Neighbourly North Wolverines. On the Women's side, both the Gold Diggers and Woolies were able to field full teams for the entire tournament, which was previously a struggle.
With the Yukon taking Men's and Women's teams to the 2025 Canada Summer Games, each training squad is participating as a club in the 2025 season. The CSG Men's have adopted the Wolverines' black and white stripes, while the Women's are doning the orange and blue Woolies.
The Gold Diggers reigned supreme in the Women's division, winning both games. In Men's, the Gold Diggers went undefeated, while the Wolverines took 2nd place with one loss and one win. The Woolies were unable to pull out a victory and ended last. With two more competitions to go in the Yukon Rugby Sevens Series, the Woolies will surely be looking to upset in both divisions.
Emile St-Pierre and Julia Fedoriak were once again named Players of the tournament for Men's and Women's, respectively. Neither of these players are new to the accolades, as they proved difficult to tackle and racked up a plethora of tries for the Gold Diggers. The fact that nomination hinged on post-tournament Boston Pizza attendance did not affect their accomplishments, and the YRF will not be taking further questions related to the selection process at this time.
During a mid-day break, the Yukon Minis charged the field for some fun mini-games and tackle-bag bashing. Scouts from all three clubs took note of the developing talent and will surely be seeking some early-stage players following their performance.

Check out some photos from the day at our Gallery. Huge thanks to Stephan Anderson-Lindsay for coming out and taking photos on the day!

You can catch the action again on June 4th at F.H. Collins Secondary. The annual high-school competition will go from 11:30 to 4 pm, followed by a Men's game. Earl Marriot Secondary will be visiting and competing in the high-school tournament as an exiting guest. A YRF community barbecue will follow the match at 5 pm, so stop by for a hot dog!
