The Yukon Rugby Federation youth recently embarked on an exciting journey to South Surrey. This vibrant exchange united enthusiastic young players, providing them with opportunities to learn more about rugby and engage in meaningful activities. The players were hosted by Earl Mariott Secondary School, who welcomed the players into their homes in a billet exchange.
Beach Adventure in White Rock

On Thursday, we ventured to White Rock, a beautiful seaside community known for its scenic beaches. Here, they enjoyed the picturesque boardwalk and stunning ocean views, creating a perfect backdrop for some light-hearted fun. The group participated in a beach clean-up initiative. This activity not only encouraged environmental stewardship but also strengthened camaraderie among team members as they worked together for a good cause.
Memorable Experiences at the HSBC Sevens Tournament
The highlight of the trip was definitely the HSBC Sevens tournament held at BC Place. This electrifying event showcased elite rugby talent from countries like New Zealand, South Africa, and Fiji. The energy in the stadium was contagious, and the sight of nearly 30,000 fans cheering on their teams combined with the energetic matches inspired the youth. Our proudest moment? Starting a wave that made its way all the way around the stadium!
Training with Men's Team Canada 7s
Under the guidance of skilled coaches and elite players, the youth worked on specific skills such as tackling, passing, and game strategy. They engaged in drills and practice matches, all designed to elevate their performance on the field. The energy was palpable, with each player leaving with newfound enthusiasm and knowledge.
Team-Building and Life Skills
Beyond rugby, the group also took part in various team-building exercises designed to promote cooperation and trust among the players. These activities are essential for young athletes, contributing to both their athletic skills and personal development. They learned valuable lessons about teamwork, communication, and resilience, all of which are crucial both on and off the field. The spirit of camaraderie during these exercises was inspiring and reinforced their shared love for the sport.
Lasting Memories and Future Adventures
As the trip concluded, the Yukon Rugby Federation youth returned home filled with unforgettable memories, new friendships, and enhanced skills. This exchange with Earl Mariott Secondary transcended rugby; it was about community, accountability, and personal growth. The bonds formed during this time are sure to inspire lasting passion for rugby in their future endeavors.
The Yukon Rugby Federation is grateful for the chance to participate in such a transformative experience. They look forward to more exchanges that will continue to inspire young athletes. The lessons learned during this journey will help develop not just skilled players, but also individuals who appreciate teamwork, environmental care, and the joy of rugby.
